Serge Leblon will be present at the opening to sign special Paradis editions of
three different photographs, in editions of 6 copies each.
Serge Leblon is often described as a photographer. Yet cinema plays a central role in
his work. As Roland Barthes wrote: “When I know I am being looked at, I transform
myself into an image.”
In Serge Leblon’s work, the line between reality and fiction is remarkably thin. This is
perhaps what gives his images such a singular retinal pleasure. Could this be an
aesthetics of the off-screen? In any case, beyond the frame, objects and things are left to speak — often revealing more about an atmosphere than any possible subject in
action.
Here, atmosphere becomes a “time-image,” waiting to be inhabited. Serge Leblon thus
develops an aesthetics of the uninhabited — or the delicately inhabited — through
images of exquisite fragility.
