LINDA DURMANN - ‘Soft Tensions’
Linda’s artistic practice centers on textiles, materiality, and the relationship between the body and clothing. She primarily works with existing materials such as deadstock fabrics and sample swatches from the fashion industry, which she collects, receives, or discovers at flea markets in Brussels.
From these fragments she constructs textile surfaces that are assembled, stretched, and eventually mounted on frames. The resulting works exist somewhere between patchwork, material study, and abstract composition.
A central aspect of Linda’s work is the tension between corporeality and industrial production. Fabrics are designed to surround and shape the body, functioning as a kind of second skin. In her work, different textile languages intersect. Transparent nylon materials that evoke skin are combined with fabric samples carrying strong vestimentary codes from the fashion industry.
The works presented in her show “Soft Tensions” continue this exploration. Individual textile fragments are combined to form larger surfaces, reflecting the way garments and memories are often constructed from multiple parts. Rather than conveying a fixed narrative, Linda’s works invite viewers to engage with the atmosphere created through material, tension, transparency, and structure.

Linda Durmann’s practice moves between visual art and music.
Alongside her textile work, she also DJs and creates mixes, an activity that shares a similar logic with her artistic process: the intuitive composition of fragments that gradually form a larger whole.
Originally from Nuremberg, today Linda works and lives in Brussels.
