A NIGHT AT DAVÉ, published by IDEA, takes us deep into the archives of a place that has become truly iconic: Chez Davé.
From 1982 to 2017, tucked between Rue Saint-Roch and Rue de Richelieu, this discreet restaurant was far more than a simple Parisian rendez-vous spot: it was a crossroads, a stage for intuition and a meeting point for diverse influences, where the worlds of fashion, cinema, art, and music converged.
Helmut Newton and his wife June were among the first regulars, followed by Grace Coddington, Bernardo Bertolucci, Allen Ginsberg, Yves Saint Laurent, Francis Ford Coppola… and many others. For more than thirty years, Chez Davé was both a well-kept secret and the most sought-after restaurant in Paris. A place people visited not to be seen, but to escape the spotlight.
At Chez Davé, guests were both regulars and friends. One did not simply walk in by chance. Even though the restaurant was open, it was always full. Yet once you stepped inside, Davé welcomed you warmly. And there was no need to ask for a menu—there wasn’t one. It was a place where you felt at ease, and where everyone’s privacy was respected.
